Lake Hood
Whether your idea of evening and weekend relaxation is yachting, water-skiing, fishing, swimming, or simply enjoying a picnic bedside the crystal clear, spring and river-fed waters, there’s something for everyone at Lake Hood.
Spanning over 80 hectares – almost two and a half kilometres in length and over a kilometre wide – Lake Hood is the region’s foremost aquatic playground. With separate space for an eight-lane international rowing course, dedicated water skiing and jet skiing areas, as well as ample room for swimming, sailing and kayaking, Lake Hood draws visitors from across the region.
The community also provides plenty of recreational opportunities for young families off the water as well, with tennis and basketball courts, as well as extensive picnic areas, recreational reserves, and trails for mountain biking and horse trekking.
There’s also the popular Lake House restaurant within walking distance. The restaurant is one of Canterbury’s best kept secrets, offering dining either indoors or outdoors near the shores of the lake.
